Starland, Savannah
On a busy city block in the up and coming Starland community of Savannnah, GA, lies the Starland Yard food truck park, Two Tides Brewing Co., and a degrading parking lot. Tasked with creating a multi-use complex, incorporating low-income and affordable housing in an increasingly expensive area.
01
A Rich Local environment
Situated between Whitaker St. and DeSoto Ave., north of 41st St., this city block is primed to attract the locals with a Brewery and a trendy food truck park made entirely of shipping containers. Not wanting to demolish either local dive, I decided to expand upon them and build up.

02
Historical Design Traditions
To draw inspiration from the surrounding historic neighborhood, I analyzed the vernacular and composed a toolkit to common elements such as pitch roof dormers, large and double porches, bay windows, and colonnades.
03
materially composed
Combining the corrugated container materials of Starland Yard with the residential forms and plinthe construction of Two Tides Brewing Co., the resultant building bridges the two existing programs in more ways than one.

The trendy shipping container construction of the food truck yard meets traditional vernacular.

A colonnade described in steel and bridged with a pop of yellow.

Angles and curves give texture and form to the building's accent color.

04
co-habitance
By keeping the existing businesses on the block, even expanding upon them and adding new space for more to grown, the residents of the newly created building as well as the surrounding neighborhood can enjoy the benefits of Starland Savannah's young and up and coming culture.
